Lake Vermilion Fishing Report: Fishing remains excellent on the most beautiful lake in Minnesota!

May 29th 2024

With the cooler weather and lots of rain, the best bite for numbers has remained in and around the deep holes on the east end of the lake. Dragging a lindy rig with a rainbow minnow or a jumbo leech have been the top two presentations. The best and most fish seem to be hanging around the top edges of these holes in 15-25 feet.

For bigger fish, there are two different patterns that are really starting to kick in:

1. The shallow rock bite. Expect this bite to kick in by this weekend with the warm sunny days the rest of this week. Soak a slip-bobber and a leech on a rock pile in 4-15 feet and wait for it to drop!

2. Weed-line Walleyes. Yes, there are weeds on this lake! Pitching weed edges in 6-15 feet with a jig/minnow, slip-bobber and a leech, jigging rap, or Lindy Rigging along the edge can all result in some great bites!

It’s a great time to be at Lake Vermilion!
