Lake Vermilion Fishing Report

Lake Vermilion Fishing Report: Fishing remains excellent on the most beautiful lake in Minnesota!

EAST END:

Walleye fishing remains outstanding with the best bite being on the sides of the rock reefs in 12-15 feet of water. A jumbo leech on a slip-bobber remains the best presentation. The bite may not be instantaneous, but if you throw your leech in front of fish, eventually they will eat it.

The evening bobber bite for walleyes continues to be very good with all the wind and rain keeping the water temperatures down. Chunk rock and sandy shorelines with a minnow or a leech can be deadly after 8pm.

Smallmouth Bass fishing is excellent along chunk rock shorelines. Jerk-baits and paddle tails have been by far the best presentations this past week. The fish are up on their beds and they are aggressive!

WEST END:

The bite for walleyes remains great on the west side of Lake Vermilion. The best bite has been dragging a Lindy Rig and a leech around mud to sand or mud to rock transitions in 18-30 feet of water. It is nice to see high numbers of eater fish on the west side!

Another bite to pay attention too is the walleyes in the weeds. Drive around with side-imaging and find points or inside turns in the weedlines in 8-15 feet of water. Cast slip-bobbers with leeches, minnows, or crawlers at the fish and wait for them to drop!

Smallmouth Bass fishing, much like the east side, is excellent along chunk rock shorelines. Jerk-baits and paddle tails have been the best presentations this past week. The fish are up on their beds and they are feeding on minnows.

It’s a great time to be at beautiful Lake Vermilion!
