7/15/2024 Leech Lake fishing report

A group of five people smile for a photo inside a wooden structure. In front of them, a stainless steel counter displays an array of freshly caught fish. Two children stand at the front, flanked by three adults in the back. The setting appears to be a fishing cabin at Leech Lake, documented on 7/15/2024 for the fishing report.

Holy cow the water has really warmed up on Leech Lake (76 deg). The walleye are starting to wake up from the cool temps as well. Fish can be found all around the main lake in grass flats and rock reefs in 14-22 feet of water. Key in on prime time bites and you will be sure to find fish using artificial baits like jig raps and plastic minnows on 1/4 oz jigs. Slip bobbers with leeches have been working as well especially in the evenings. Jigs and minnows, jigs and crawlers and Jigs and leeches have worked this week as well when used with light jigs worked over the tops of the schools of fish.

Musky action has slowed some with the warming waters. Temps pushing 80 deg were common recently so fishing for Musky was shut down with the dangerous temps. Look for early morning cooler temps or after dark for Musky action. Look to the shallow weeds, rocks, and some suspended fish to be active still. Bucktails, Top water and tubes can be deadly this time of year.

Smallmouth and largemouth fishing has picked up with the large mouth being found in sucker and boy bays, smallmouth are found everywhere from shallow rock points to deeper rock humps. Tubes, ned rigs, and drop shots were working for smallmouth while heavier jig and frogs were working for largemouth bass in and around the rice and pencil reeds.
